The beauty of Open Source โœจ

I'm about to tell you why I think and recommend FOSS to peeps who ask me for software recommendation to do stuff or to people who come asking for cracked version of . This is strictly my personal opinion btw.

Hey, everyone loves money don't we.๐Ÿค‘ And it's perfectly normal to want money in return for something you made using sweat, tears and months/years of hard work. And that's normal. Perfectly normal. And that's how the society works.

So what is FOSS ?

FOSS (Free & Open Source Software) is software that gives the user freedom. Freedoms like:

So why do I love it?

For one, the entire concept. It's software that you and many others made together, and you give the entire source code you spent countless hours to write for free . . . . . . for FREE!! Like what the heck??! That seems stupid when you really think about it.

But that's the thing. FOSS represents something that's bigger than yourself. It's not just about how much money you get. (Yup it's possible to build multi billion dollar companies even if you give the entire codebase of what you made freely available).

It gives people freedom to built on top of what you built. Or for you to built on top of what others built. Make something that truly caters to you. It helps in the collective progress of humanity as a whole. Setting aside one's ego to see who's richer than whom.

You're probably already using FOSS in your life without even knowing. Think of the VLC media player you watch movies on or the Android phone you're probably using to read this or the countless sites on the internet you visit that runs on Linux etc...

When you want to make something you don't have to start from scratch. When you want to build a media centre like jellyfin or stremio, you don't have to spend months trying to build a media player by yourself. You can use something like VLC and integrate it into your project. Or when Google wanted to make an operating system that runs on phones (Android), they didn't have to re-engineer the whole thing. They could use the Linux Kernel and build on top of it.

I've been using Linux exclusively for 5 years now, and I LOVE it and have been able to do & learn SO much. A Windows 10 Pro license costs Rs.15000 where I live, and I've been doing everything I used to do on it (and more) for free!!

Here are some good FOSS software recommendations for you.

The list goes on and on. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

What I mean to say is that people who're willing to share the amazing thing they built for someone else to use and letting them make something (possibly better) using what you built...is...how do I put it....nothing short of AMAZING.

And this entire concept fascinates me โœจ
